Amphibian Adventures for FSX offers six missions flying in Canada and Alaska in Alphasim's HU-16 Albatross, or the Microsoft Grumman Goose. A bonus mission offers a flight for the Aerosoft Catalina, and a second bonus mission for those with the Acceleration pack adds a mission start in the EH-101, and then a transfer to the Albatross.
The HU-16 Albatross
The Albatross is flown from both land and water. A beautiful new Canadian livery by Bruce Martin is flown to represent the CFB Comox aircraft. Other versions flown include the US Coast Guard and the US Navy. The standard Microsoft Grumman Goose is enhanced by the AussieX high-resolution texture package.
The G21 Goose
The Grumman Goose is extremely rare. with 345 airframes produced and approximately 60 remaining in service. The Goose has proven extremely versatile and has seen operational service as a freighter, passenger transport, military transport and even as a flying yacht installed with bars and toilets. It has held roles with Army, Airforce, Navy, Coastguard and has served around the world.
Microsoft's model of the G21A Grumman Goose has been a sleeper -- well received in certain quarters but providing generally ho-hum graphics and flight model. The interior was particularly bland. The team at AussieX started work and discovered that the performance files for this bird were derived from an assortment of different Goose models. A lot of fine tuning was required to get the Goose to behave as close to the real life aircraft as possible.
The Canadian West coast is renowned for its rugged beauty and variety of climate zones. We have added scenic detail around many locations. Air traffic control is limited in many coastal areas, and the remoteness of locations adds to the challenge.
Similarly, Alaskan scenery is rugged and beautiful. Missions include dusk and dawn flights in three different seasons to and from famous locations like Fairbanks, and Juneau and Skagway in the Klondike.
Missions include new scenery, a variety of voices, and the challenging conditions of weather. Canadian locations include Comox, Bamfield, Sandspit and Prince Rupert. Alaska locations include Skagway and Anchorage. Mission types include search and rescue, transport, patrol, and ferrying cargo. All types of weather are included, as well as emergency situations. On screen mission goal markers are available for most missions.
For those who have the Aerosoft Catalina, a bonus mission involves transporting an Admiral to Honolulu. The bonus mission for Acceleration owners or owners of FSX Gold requires flying a helicopter, then transferring to the Albatross.
